Event Description:

Rhys Watson from Minerva Learning will talk to us about a GIS project, focusing on stakeholder and change management .

Installation of a GIS (Geographic Information System) is often considered to be one of the most challenging types of project that can be undertaken. At Tas Gas Networks, a core business improvement project to install a GIS including a front end tool for users to access information relating to the companies gas assets was undertaken.

This represented a major shift in maturity for the company in the way it could access and use the asset data available. This ranged from an improved effectiveness in responding to incidents through to planning, DBYD (Dial Before You Dig) responses and overall access to network information.

Tas Gas Networks are based in Tasmania having constructed the gas distribution network and provide a retail arm. The company first came to Tasmania as a subsidiary of Powerco NZ, under a partnership agreement with the Tasmanian government to construct and operate the gas network.

Rhys Watson has a decade of involvement in the Utility industry. At Tas Gas, he worked in the Project Office liaising with stakeholders to define and implement business improvement projects aligning with the company strategy. He returned to NZ at the beginning of the year to set up Minerva Learning, a training company providing courses in the Microsoft Office suite, Soft Skills, Project Management and a Diploma of Management.
