It has been one year since PMINZ started a new sub-branch in the Manawatu – Whanganui region celebrated with the launch meeting in July 2012 at the Te Manawa Gallery with Steve Maharey as key note speaker. We had about 100 attend the launch – it was a great turnout.
We continue to move around the community and are hosted at various locations such as NZ Police Regional headquarters; Massey University; Toyota NZ and NZDF Ohakea.
The speakers are coming from far and wide and include Massey Wildbase Centre; Thornley Group; The NZ Police; NZ Defence Force; Beca; Third Bearing; Toyota NZ; MWH and Dwyer Tech Services.
We look forward to another year of support from “regulars” and volunteers. And hope to see some new faces getting involved.
We wish to thank Beca for their continued support through their generous sponsorship.
And FMG, thank you for your continued support by providing a great meetings venue when requested.

The Wanganui-Manawatu sub branch had its first monthly meeting on the 15th of August. The meeting was hosted by Farmers Mutual Group (FMG) at their Palmerston North office on the square and was attended by around 30 participants from all walks of business from the region.
The presentations for the evening were
- The establishment of Project Office by FMG PMO Pete Frizzell
- FMG Statement redesign, and
- FMG project WOW- The refurbishment of 6 floors of FMG house both by Kalyn de Castro
The attendees were a mixture of those who had also attended the sub-branches launch in July, as well a number of Project Managers who had missed the launch but were still keen to take part in the on-going monthly meetings. An informative and enjoyable evening was had by all.

Congratulations to Kalyn de Castro and Tracy Couchman for organising an amazingly successful launch for the new Manawatu-Whanganui sub-branch on 18 July in Palmerston North.
The event was attended by 70 to 80 people, all with a keen interest in project management. Thanks to Kalyn for running the event; Tracy for organising the meeting; Mike Thompson (PMINZ Executive Officer) for presenting the PMINZ perspective, on behalf of Sean Whitaker who was unable to attend; and to Steve Maharey, Vice-Chancellor of Massey University, for his enlightening and engaging presentation on Massey's vision and approach to project, programme and portfolio management.
A great evening of networking, knowledge sharing, with the promise of more to come. And lots of potential: Kalyn and Tracy had an invite list of 150. Attendees came from local councils, dairy industry, engineering firms, IT, finance sectors and more.
Following on the heels of the successful Taranaki sub-branch launch on 6th June, Dave Smith, Kalyn and their teams have provided a very sound foundation for the ongoing success of these two new sub-branches, Taranaki and Manawatu-Whanganui.
Thanks also to Dave Smith, our Coordinator of the new sub-branch in Taranaki, for both leading the group in New Plymouth, and for attending the Manawatu launch in support of Kalyn and Tracy. Thanks also to Bob Barraclough from the Central Branch Committee for being there in support last night.
Finally, thanks to Beca who have stepped in to sponsor the Manawatu-Whanganui sub-branch, and FMG insurance who have agreed to be a key supporter, providing a venue for monthly meetings.
